Condition
The watch remains in honest vintage condition with honest signs of wear consistent with its age. The original textured white dial remains clean and attractive, while the integrated bracelet still retains its elegant woven finish. Wear is present on the bracelet, and scratches are visible on the crystal from decades of use. These cosmetic imperfections have been reflected in the asking price.
Notes
Elegant and understated, this vintage Seiko perfectly captures the refined design language that Japanese manufacturers embraced during the late 1970s. Rather than relying on elaborate styling, Seiko focused on clean proportions, subtle textures, and integrated bracelet designs that allowed the watch to wear almost like a piece of jewelry. The softly curved case and slim profile make it both comfortable and timeless, while the textured dial adds depth that becomes especially noticeable as it catches the light.
Although it is a quartz watch, the movement contains 2 functional jewels, a detail that surprises many collectors. During the early years of quartz technology, Seiko often incorporated jeweled bearings into their quartz calibres to reduce friction on critical moving components. This reflected Seiko’s philosophy that quartz watches deserved the same level of engineering attention as their mechanical counterparts, helping to improve long-term durability and reliability.
Another interesting detail is the watch’s Daini Seikosha signature. Throughout much of Seiko’s history, Daini Seikosha and Suwa Seikosha operated as two independent manufacturing divisions, each developing their own movements and design philosophies while competing internally to produce better watches. This friendly rivalry ultimately drove many of Seiko’s greatest innovations and helped establish the company’s reputation as one of the world’s leading watchmakers.
