Condition

This watch shows honest signs of age consistent with a vintage timepiece of its era. The mechanical movement is currently not running and will require inspection or servicing before regular use. The date-setting mechanism has not been fully tested, and we have not yet determined the correct procedure for adjusting the date. Cosmetically, the dial remains attractive with a pleasant vintage appearance, while the case still retains its elegant rectangular profile. Few watch designs have stood the test of time quite like the rectangular “Tank” case. The Seiko Chorus embraces this elegant design language with slim proportions, a silver sunburst dial, and clean baton markers that reflect the understated sophistication popular during the 1960s. Despite its compact size, the elongated case gives the watch a refined wrist presence that remains stylish even by modern standards.

The Chorus collection represented Seiko’s effort to offer beautifully finished mechanical dress watches at an accessible price. While Grand Seiko and King Seiko were competing for chronometric excellence, collections like Chorus demonstrated that thoughtful design and dependable engineering could still be offered in more affordable watches. Today, these pieces provide a fascinating glimpse into Seiko’s incredibly broad product lineup during Japan’s golden age of watchmaking.

One particularly charming feature is the cyclops date magnifier. While magnified date windows are most famously associated with Rolex, several Japanese manufacturers—including Seiko—experimented with the concept during the 1960s and 1970s. Finding one on a ladies’ mechanical dress watch is considerably less common and gives this model a distinctive vintage character.

The rectangular “Tank” watch design traces its roots back over a century to the Art Deco period. By the 1960s, nearly every major Japanese manufacturer—including Seiko, Citizen, and Orient—offered their own interpretations. Rather than simply copying Swiss designs, they often added uniquely Japanese touches such as compact automatic movements, jeweled calibers, and practical date displays. This Chorus is an excellent example of that blend of international inspiration and Japanese engineering.
