Condition

The watch is currently running and remains in honest vintage condition with signs of age consistent with nearly six decades of use. The naturally aged dial has developed a warm ivory patina that adds to its vintage character, while the stainless steel case retains its classic proportions. Scratches are present on the acrylic crystal, and the minute hand appears loose, preventing it from being adjusted correctly. The date-setting function could not be verified during inspection and may require servicing. These points have been taken into consideration in the asking price.

Elegant, understated, and full of vintage charm, this Seiko Chorus is a wonderful example of Seiko’s mechanical watchmaking before the Quartz Revolution transformed the industry. Its clean dial layout, slim stainless steel case, and naturally aged finish reflect the timeless design philosophy that helped establish Seiko’s reputation during the 1960s. Rather than hiding its age, this watch proudly wears the character it has developed over decades, making each example truly unique.

One of the most interesting details is the Diashock marking on the dial. Introduced by Seiko during the 1950s, Diashock is Seiko’s proprietary shock-protection system designed to safeguard the delicate balance staff from impacts, similar in concept to the Swiss Incabloc system. It was one of the company’s early engineering innovations and played an important role in improving the durability of everyday mechanical wristwatches.

Another charming feature is the fish emblem engraved on the case back. Before modern water-resistance ratings became standardized, Seiko used symbols such as the fish to identify watches designed with enhanced water protection for everyday use. Today, this small detail has become a distinctive hallmark of many vintage Seiko models and is appreciated by collectors as a reminder of the brand’s early history.
