Condition

The watch remains in fair vintage condition and shows honest signs of age throughout. The original champagne dial has developed noticeable patina and discoloration over the decades, giving it a unique vintage appearance while also reflecting its age. Tarnishing is present on portions of the gold-plated case, and the crystal remains clear enough for everyday visibility.

Mechanically, the watch requires attention as the minute hand cannot currently be adjusted when setting the time, indicating that the movement will need inspection and servicing. Overall, this example is best suited for collectors or enthusiasts who appreciate original vintage pieces and are willing to restore or preserve them.

Notes

This Omega De Ville is a wonderful reminder that vintage collecting is not always about perfection. While many examples have been refinished or restored over the years, this watch appears to retain its original dial, complete with the natural aging accumulated over decades of use.

Powering the watch is the Swiss-made Omega Caliber 1336, a reliable quartz movement from Omega’s early quartz era. Like the Caliber 1330, it reflects Omega’s commitment to producing serviceable, high-quality electronic movements at a time when Swiss manufacturers were redefining themselves during the Quartz Revolution.

Rather than hiding its age, this watch embraces it. The naturally aged dial gives each piece an individual appearance, making it unlike any other example in existence.

Fun Fact

One of the biggest debates in vintage watch collecting is whether an aged dial should be restored.

Surprisingly, many experienced collectors prefer original patinated dials over freshly refinished ones.

Why?

Because once a dial is refinished, it permanently loses its originality. Every tiny spot, color shift, and mark on an untouched dial developed naturally over decades through exposure to light, humidity, temperature changes, and everyday wear. It’s essentially the watch’s fingerprint.

In fact, some of the world’s most valuable vintage watches—including famous Rolex “tropical” dials and Omega “ghost” bezels—owe much of their desirability to natural aging that would once have been considered a flaw.
